A best man is known to be a person who can ease the emotional quotient of any wedding. His contribution in any wedding goes a long way. Not only does he help the groom in various aspects of the wedding like his suit, his wedding arrangements and his alcohol intake but he is also the man responsible for adding the much needed respite laughter quotient to the wedding. Firstly while cracking jokes remember to keep a poker straight face, the audience will laugh harder. Don’t start laughing even before you open your mouth. No one and I repeat no one will find that funny.
Keep your speech light and infuse a little humor in it here and there. There is absolutely no need to keep repeating one joke after another. Stick to the originality of the speech; remember you are there to deliver a funny speech, not just to be funny. You have a task in hand, keep that in mind.
Stay away from profanity of any kind. Never use abusive language even you are a childhood friend of the groom. That sort of behavior is extremely unacceptable at a wedding. There is an audience in front of you and they vary in ages and backgrounds. Respect that. Any dirty jokes and comments about the groom or the bride or any one else will cause raised eyebrows and your speech will not be received well.
While recounting tales of your childhood with the groom, make sure you do not mention any embarrassing incidents. The groom will not find them funny, at least not on his wedding day. Refrain from recounting such incidents. Do not become the cause of embarrassment to the groom, bride or any other individual.
Do not alienate anyone based on their color, caste, creed or religion. That, my friend, will be very insensible. Make sure your jokes are harmless and do not hurt anyone’s sentiments.
If you stick to these guidelines, there is no doubt that you will deliver the best speech.
